Cebu willing to help other provinces launch own Suroy-Suroy

The Provincial Government of Cebu is willing to provide assistance and share experience to other provinces and local government units that would wish to follow the successful tourism program, Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbu.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said she has heard of a number of provinces that wish to follow what the provincial government has been able to do in Cebu with the Suroy-Suroy.

"We have always been very willing to extend assistance, to share our experience and knowledge that we have gained through all these years of conducting the Suroy-Suroy," she said.

Now on its sixth year, the flagship tourism program of the Province of Cebu remains to be successful, attracting an increasing number of tourists for trips to Cebu South, North, Midwest, and Camotes Island.

Suroy-Suroy, which could mean a leisurely travel, provides tourists a glimpse of the different natural and historical attractions and destinations of towns and cities in Cebu that are visited during the event.

Several LGUs, including the district of former President and now Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, have expressed their desire to launch their own similar tourism program.

"You know the supreme complement is imitation and we would gladly help if they ask for our help, in fact, this is how we continue to improve governance, to learn of best practices of other LGUs because Cebu can also learn as well," said Garcia.

By sharing and helping other provinces and LGUs who may be interested, the governor said Cebu can also gain more insights and bright ideas that can be used to further enhance the Suroy-Suroy.

"No one has an exclusivity of expertise, knowledge, or bright ideas, and in that sense, when we share our best practices then truly each of us are doing our most important contribution to national progress and development," said Garcia. #
